Experiencing a Stress Hangover???
How to love yourself, heal, and move on with life!
We've all had those days. Things don't go as planned. In fact, you get totally derailed! It could be something like car trouble, sick days, unexpected work deadlines, teenage angst (can you tell I have a 14 year old??). Any number of things can bring on the stress and get us off track for the day.
"Well, sometimes that just happens," you say. "I'll get a good night's sleep and feel much better tomorrow."
The problem is, when you wake up the next day, you're still sluggish and feel like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed!
Why aren't you feeling better yet?!
Well, stress leaves mental, physical, and emotional baggage behind. Sometimes longer than you expect. So, if you find yourself dragging after an overly stressful day, what can you do to take care of yourself and get back on track?
Positive Mindset: Any improvement starts here first, right?
positive thinking and self talk
play some upbeat music
listen to an uplifting podcast or speaker
get around other high achievers and encouraging people
make a phone call to someone that lifts your spirits
Thinking Time: John Maxwell says, "Your thinking, more than anything else, shapes the way you live. It's really true that if you change your thinking, you can change your life." Here are some ideas for how to get thinking!
meditation
prayer
time to think and process feelings, emotions, situations
visualize end goal
Self-Care: This is soooo important and often neglected! Word of caution here, however. Sometimes we can get stuck here because we're avoiding the tasks that stacked up from the previous day's stress. I suggest you set a time limit and stick to it! :)
ice cream break!
massage
go for a walk
manicure
watch a movie
take a nap
Get Going Again! You've rested and recovered. There may still be a little of leftover stress hanging around, but getting back on track may be just what you need to nip it in the bud.
reorganize, reschedule, re-prioritize
forgive yourself and others
