From Resolutions to Reality: Four Questions that Inspire Change

Being a working mom is a balancing act that demands resilience, time management, and endless love. But in the midst of caring for your family and pursuing your career, it’s easy to lose sight of your personal goals and aspirations. Remember those New Year’s resolutions you made? Are they reality or are you really frustrated because life has gotten in the way yet again? Sometimes, a pause is necessary to reflect and realign with who God has called you to be. As a coach, I often help clients see their inspiration for change through four pivotal questions: Where am I now? Where do I want to go? What changes should I make? What does success look like?

1.  Where Am I Now?

Start by taking an honest look at your current situation. Where are you in your career? How do you feel about the time and energy you invest in your family, work, and yourself? Acknowledge the victories and challenges you face daily. Are you fulfilled, or is there an underlying feeling that something is missing? What’s working and what isn’t? This is your moment to be introspective and unashamedly honest. Understanding where you are now is the first step towards creating meaningful change.

2. Where do i want to go?

Now that you’ve assessed your present, it’s time to envision your future. What are your long-term goals, both professionally and personally? Maybe you aspire to a promotion, a new career path, or more time with your children. Think about the lifestyle you want, the relationships you wish to nurture, the resolutions you’ve made, and the legacy you hope to leave. Clarifying where you want to go will give you a sense of direction and purpose.

3. What changes should I make?

Change can be daunting, but it’s often necessary to reach your goals. What adjustments do you need to make to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be? What support do you need to get there? This might involve learning new skills, setting boundaries at work or home, or re-evaluating your time commitments. Change doesn’t have to be drastic; even small, consistent steps can lead to significant transformation. Consider what’s holding you back and what you need to let go of to move forward.

4. what does success look like?

Success is deeply personal and goes beyond traditional metrics like job titles or income. For you, success might mean achieving work-life harmony, feeling more present with your children, or finding joy in both your career and motherhood. Prayerfully define what success looks like on your own terms. Visualize it, feel it, and let it guide your decisions. Success is not a destination but a journey—one that evolves as you grow.
