What happens when you fall off the horse?

How to stay motivated with your goals when you've already "fallen behind."

Well, I have spent the first week of 2018 with a pretty severe case of the flu. Chills, body aches, lots of vitamin C, naps, and hot tea are NOT on my vision board for a successful year!

In big and small ways, you and I will have many times when things don't go as we planned for reaching our goals. What we choose to do in these situations will make a huge difference toward experiencing success! I'll go ahead and confess now my temptation for a pity-party a few times during the last week. And, you'll likely have those moments, too. But, we can't stay there too long!

I've got a few tips for how to pull yourself out of the muck and try again!

1. Remember that every day/hour/minute is a new beginning! (The more discouraged we feel, the more often we need the reminder! LOL)

2. Have time worked into your schedule for regular review of goals. I recommend daily, weekly, and quarterly review times. The frequency is especially helpful for when we're feeling behind or run down. And those longer-distance reviews help us grasp a "big picture" view and perspective. Also, if you miss a few days, it won't hurt too much--you can jump right back on board!

3. Feed your mind with positive sounds, words, affirmations. When I'm feeling down, the negative thoughts are easy to have. That's when it's especially important to listen for positivity--it's like eating vegetables for healthy thoughts! Some ways I feed my mind goodness: Daily Audio Bible, uplifting music (whatever is your favorite and gets the blood flowing!), talking with encouraging friends, prayer.

4. Surround yourself with other high achievers. Have you ever heard that you're the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with? The personality traits, habits, and thoughts of those that surround you quickly become your own. Want to have positive, successful thoughts and actions? Then surround yourself with others who are striving for the same!

5. Visualize the end goal. There will be bumps, obstacles, hills and valleys along the way. But, focus on where you're going and that will minimize the struggles that come.
